Matthias Heiderich

Matthias Heiderich is a German photographer born in 1982. After studying computer linguistics, he throws himself into photography and is soon exhibited in many galeries (Hall des Chars in Strasbourg, Carte Blanche in San Francisco, Audi Art Gallery in Saint-Petersburg...). Spektrum Berlin is his first monography.

Spektrum Berlin

For a hundred years, architecture has been recognized as an undisputable trademark of German photography. From Albert Renger Patzsch to Karl-Hugo Schmölz or Hilla & Bernd Becher, many innovators of architectural photography are indeed German. They are important not only as artists but as witnessses of time, trends and evolution.

The influence of German tradition is omnipresent in Matthias Heiderich’s works, with his typologies of buildings and structures. Although aparently away from all these photographs, human symptoms are actually everywhere.

Spektrum Berlin is nothing less than an invitation to reconsider our vision of Berlin. It’s also the work of a young though great name of European photography.
